Dear Breeder,
There have been many changes in the 30 years since Bearstone Stud was founded. What started as a 20 acre cattle farm now covers 340 acres and comprises three farms. We find that having the three farms 1 mile and 3 miles apart is invaluable when it comes to splitting foaling, barren and weaned mares, colts and fillies.
Our policy when it comes to stallions has always been to try and stand sound, tough classy horses, which were all Group horses at 2 years.
MAJOR CADEAUX - we are very excited to welcome Major Cadeaux to our stallion ranks. A top class Sprinter / Miler he is by the outstanding stallion, and sire of sires, Cadeaux Genereux. A winner on his debut at 2 he went on to score in 3 Group races winning the Sandown Mile Gr.2 impressively and taking the Greenham Stakes Gr.3 by 31⁄2 lengths from Dutch Art. He will be a valuable addition to our roster and has been introduced at a really competitive fee compared with other new stallions with similar pedigrees and race records.
INDESATCHEL - won his maiden as a 2yo and was placed in two Group races that season. At 3 he completed a hat trick of victories, including two Group races and was universally acknowledged as being very unlucky finishing a head second to Shamardal in the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp. His first yearlings were well received at all the major sales and we are very excited about the prospect for his first runners next season.
FIREBREAK - coming to us late in the season Firebreak’s first book of mares, although full of quality, was not numerous. Despite this he has the distinction of siring a Group 1 winner in his first crop. His son, HEARTS OF FIRE, won the Gran Criterium beating subsequent Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Gr.1 winner Vale of York. In addition Firebreak has achieved the amazing feat of being the LEADING SIRE OF 2YO’s IN EUROPE IN 2009 (by % of SWs to Runners), ahead of many well-established sires.
MIND GAMES - has returned to Bearstone, and has had well-deserved success as a Group 1 broodmare sire this season. He has been a stalwart at the stud producing tough, precocious 2yo’s since retiring here some 10 years ago.
Notwithstanding the high level of success achieved by our stallions at the various stages of their careers, in recognition of the worldwide economic downturn, we have decided to hold our nomination fees at the competitive level of 2009. We hope you will take advantage of these realistically-priced stallions, and support us with your mares.
Regards
TERRY HOLDCROFT
