Major Cadeaux - Press Release

Bearstone Stud announces that Major Cadeaux, the Group 2 winning miler and dual Group 3 winner over 7 furlongs, will retire to Bearstone Stud in 2010.

The five year old son of Cadeaux Genereux made a winning debut over six furlongs at Newbury in May 2006 for Richard Hannon and the following month finished 3/4 length second to Hellvelyn in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, beating subsequent Group 1 winner Holy Roman Emperor. On his reappearance the following April in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury he defeated Group 1 winner Dutch Art by 3 1/2 lengths and was then beaten just 3 lengths by Cockney Rebel in the fastest renewal of the 2000 Guineas since 1995. As a four year old he recorded his most important success in the Group 2 bet365 Mile at Sandown and followed this by dropping back to 7 furlongs for a comfortable win in the Group 3 J.W. Lees (John of Gaunt) Stakes at Haydock. He subsequently finished third in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, less than 3 1/2 lengths behind Henrythenavigator and Raven’s Pass, and third again
in the Group 1 Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville behind Tamayuz and
Natagora.

Major Cadeaux is by the Champion sprinter and July Cup winner Cadeaux Genereux. He has been a prolific source of high class winners, seven at Group 1 level including successful sire Bahamian Bounty. Major Cadeaux is the second foal of the maiden Maine Lobster who is out of US Grade 1 winning two year old Capades who went on to win six Graded stakes and finished second in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Handicap. She is also the dam of dual US stakes winner Cap Beino.

Terry Holdcroft, owner of Bearstone Stud, commented “We are delighted to be bringing such a high-class son of a highly successful stallion to Bearstone Stud. He is a very impressive looking horse who went very close to being a Royal Ascot two-year-old winner, and was undoubtedly one of the best milers of his generation. His CV should certainly appeal to breeders - a top class racehorse by a proven sire of sires, the most wonderful temperament and free of Northern Dancer blood.”

Major Cadeaux will join Firebreak, Indesatchel and Mind Games at Bearstone Stud. A stud fee will be announced later.
